Handiwork

Romans 1:21-23Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.”

Notice the process…
– They knew God
– They did not give God the glory, honor and praise that is His
– They would not thank God for all that He does (for breath/life)
– Their thoughts (desires, dreams) became worthless
– Their hearts became foolish and filled with darkness
– They decided and announced they were wise, enlightened, sophisticated

The result…

They became fools.
Psalm 14:1 tells us that, “The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.”

Plays out fairly soundly; deny God, refuse to praise Him, fail to thank Him and your thoughts will become worthless. Your heart will grow dark and you will eventually decide there is no God. The result will be that you WILL worship and serve something other than God- most today seem to choose “self” to be their new god. And that will lead to all the behaviors listed in Romans 1:24-32 which manifest in the darkened hearts of those who deny God.

I encounter many people who say they know God, but there is no worship of Him on their lips, nor in their lives. They are adamant to their knowing Him, yet there exists no evidence of thankfulness towards God arising from their hearts. All their thoughts and conversations betray desires and goals that have no eternal value. Their hearts have slowly darkened and foolishness has set in and they are completely unaware. Darkness tends to do that, bring a lack of awareness.

Do you know God?
